Edward Everett (1794-1865), was an American diplomat, educator, orator, and clergyman. He was Governor of Massachusetts, U.S. minister to Britain, Secretary of State under President Filmore, and a U.S. Senator. He also was the president of Harvard and spoke at Gettysburg with President Lincoln. Edward Everett stated:
